Atlas Copco is a Swedish industrial group and one of the world's leading manufacturers of compressors, vacuum equipment, pumps, generators, and industrial and assembly tools. Its products are supplied to approximately 180 countries.
The company was founded in 1873 in Stockholm under the name AB Atlas by Edvard Fränckel. In 1917, a merger with AB Diesels Motorer formed AB Atlas Diesel, and in 1956 the company took its current name, Atlas Copco AB (following the acquisition of the Belgian compressor firm Arpic Engineering). Key milestones include the acquisition of Chicago Pneumatic (1987), entry into the vacuum equipment market through the acquisition of Edwards (2014), and the spin-off of its mining business into the separate company Epiroc (2018).
