Eaton is an American-Irish multinational power management company. It manufactures electrical equipment and power distribution systems, uninterruptible power supplies (UPS), backup power systems, as well as aerospace and automotive components; in the rental/events industry it is known for its power distribution and backup power solutions for festivals and concerts.
The company was founded in 1911 by Joseph O. Eaton as the Torbensen Gear and Axle Company in Bloomfield, New Jersey, to manufacture truck axles and gears; in 1914 production was moved to Cleveland, Ohio, closer to the automotive industry. Over more than a century, Eaton transformed from an auto-parts firm into a diversified leader in power management. In 2012, Eaton acquired Cooper Industries for $13 billion and reincorporated in Ireland as Eaton Corporation plc, with its legal headquarters in Dublin.
