Sennheiser is a German manufacturer of professional audio equipment: microphones, wireless systems, monitoring, and conferencing solutions. A world leader in pro audio, its products are widely used at concerts and festivals, and in broadcast and installation applications.
The company was founded in 1945 by Fritz Sennheiser on a farm in Wennebostel near Hannover, where its first microphone was produced. Key milestones include the MD 421 microphone (1960, still in production today), the world's first open-back headphones, the HD 414 (1968), and a Scientific and Technical Academy Award for a shotgun microphone in 1987; in 1991 the company acquired the legendary microphone brand Neumann. In 2021 the consumer audio division (headphones, soundbars) was sold to Sonova, allowing Sennheiser Group to focus on professional audio. The company remains an independent family business, now led by the third generation, Daniel and Andreas Sennheiser.
