Sony is a Japanese multinational technology conglomerate and one of the world's largest electronics manufacturers. For the rental and events industry, it produces professional broadcast and studio cameras, PTZ cameras, lenses, microphones, video switchers, and live streaming solutions (under its Sony Professional / pro.sony division).

The company was founded on May 7, 1946, in Tokyo by Masaru Ibuka and Akio Morita under the name Tokyo Tsushin Kogyo (Tokyo Telecommunications Engineering Corporation); its first notable product was Japan's first tape recorder, the Type-G. In 1958, the company adopted the name Sony (from the Latin sonus, meaning "sound"). Over the following decades, Sony released iconic products — transistor radios, the Walkman, the PlayStation game console — and became a world leader in image sensor manufacturing, consumer electronics, and the music and film industries. Today, the group's parent entity is Sony Group Corporation.
