Ultratec Special Effects (Ultratec FX) is a Canadian manufacturer of stage special effects equipment for the live events industry. It produces atmospheric effects machines (smoke, fog, low fog, haze, snow, and bubble generators) and close-proximity pyrotechnics for concerts, theater, theme parks, and sporting events.
The company was founded around 1992 by Adrian Segeren, who recognized the live events industry's need for reliable machines capable of producing consistent, spectacular atmospheric effects. Its equipment quickly found its way onto Broadway, into theme parks, and onto world concert tours; in the 1990s the company developed a low-fog generator (paired with the G3000) and the Radiance water-based hazer. In 2007, Ultratec acquired a pyrotechnics division, adding a full range of close-proximity pyrotechnics to its atmospheric effects lineup, and in 2012 it opened an operations facility in Frankfurt, Germany, to serve the European market. Today the company has manufacturing operations in Canada (Ontario) and the USA (Alabama), along with its proprietary AngelFire and Low Smoke Lift technologies.
