James Thomas Engineering (JTE) is a British manufacturer of aluminum truss, stage rigging, and stage lighting for the rental and events industry (concerts, tours, festivals). It is recognized as a pioneer of pre-rigged truss systems and ranks among the world's largest manufacturers of aluminum truss.
The company was founded in February 1977 by James Thomas and John Walters in a small garage in Bishampton, England, where they started out making aluminum PAR can spotlights. In 1978 production moved to Pershore and the company began manufacturing aluminum truss; in 1983 it developed its original pre-rigged truss system, which was used on a major rock band's world tour. In 1990 the company opened a production facility in the US (Knoxville, Tennessee) to enable simultaneous manufacturing on both sides of the Atlantic, and in 1992 it introduced the SuperTruss system. In 2014 JTE merged with TOMCAT and Area Four Industries (Milos Group), forming one of the world's largest aluminum truss manufacturing groups.
